Germany's Lufthansa and Italian rival ITA Airways will propose further remedies to try to secure EU antitrust approval for the tie-up between the two carriers, Italy's economy minister said on Thursday.

Lufthansa executives and lawyers will attend a day-long hearing in Brussels on Friday to try to convince EU antitrust regulators to clear the company's bid for a minority stake in Italian rival ITA Airways.

Lufthansa's new remedies on its ITA Airways stake buy are not markedly different from an earlier package rejected by EU antitrust regulators which have also discounted Ryanair as a rival in its scrutiny of the deal, people familiar with the matter said.

German airline Lufthansa has offered concessions aimed at securing EU antitrust approval for its acquisition of a minority stake in Italian carrier ITA Airways, an update on the European Commission website shows.

Lufthansa and United Airlines continue to monitor the situation in the Middle East, with the former suspending all flights to some places like Tehran, until April 18.
