Honda agrees to a deal with battery-tech company QuantumScape.

Quantumscape Corp (NYSE:QS) shares surged about 15% on Thursday after the solid-state battery developer announced a joint research agreement with Honda Motor (NYSE:HMC) subsidiary Honda R&D Co Ltd to advance its battery technology platform. The multi-year collaboration will focus on solid-state battery development and related manufacturing processes, combining the expertise of both companies.

Honda is working with QuantumScape on advanced lithium battery technology.

Honda Motor America ​is recalling 1,049,883 vehicles in ‌the United States due to a defect in the ​tyre repair kit, ​the National Highway Traffic Safety ⁠Administration (NHTSA) said on Wednesday.

Honda is recalling over 880,000 Pilot, Ridgeline, Passport and Acura MDX vehicles due to rear suspension corrosion that could increase the risk of a crash.

All of the vehicles impacted by the recall were sold in the so-called “salt belt,” the region of the U.S. where roadways are frequently treated with de-icing salt during the winter months. Some of the vehicles sold might face “premature paint peeling,” an NHTSA recall report found, which could cause premature corrosion in regions that rely heavily on road salt.
