Alibaba: Far More Reasons To Be Bullish Than Bearish

Alibaba (NYSE: BABA) is making bold investments in the development of its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

Chinese tech giants including Alibaba-backed Ant Group and e-commerce group JD.com have paused plans to issue stablecoins in Hong Kong after the government raised concerns about the rise of currencies controlled by the private sector, the Financial Times reported on Saturday.

Its shares have dropped amid an escalating trade conflict between Beijing and Washington.

Alibaba Group said its artificial intelligence (AI) spending in core eCommerce operations is already breaking even, marking a rare point of measurable return in large-scale AI investment, according to a CNBC report.

In e-commerce, Alibaba is already making back what it has spent on artificial intelligence, vice president Kaifu Zhang told reporters on Thursday. Zhang said preliminary testing has showed consistent results from AI, including a 12% increase in returns on advertising spend.

Artificial intelligence is arguably the most significant trend in technology today. Among the AI sector's biggest players are Alibaba (BABA -2.32%) and Amazon (AMZN -1.59%).

Hong Kong-based Oriental Harbor Investment Master Fund took a new stake in Alibaba Group Holding Limited (BABA -2.32%) in the third quarter, establishing a position valued at approximately $39.5 million as of September 30, according to an SEC filing released on Tuesday.
