The S&P 500 (^GSPC 0.19%) slipped 0.19% to 6,963.74 today even as December CPI data came in slightly lower than expected. The Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC 0.10%) eased 0.10% to 23,709.87, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDEX: ^DJI) fell 0.80% to 49,191.99.

A pair of chipmakers were among the top performers in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Tuesday after the stocks won fresh bullish calls on Wall Street.

Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD stock) jumped approximately 7% in midday trading on Tuesday after KeyBanc analyst John Vinh upgraded the chipmaker to Overweight from Sector Weight. The analyst raised his 12-month price target to $270, implying 30% upside, citing supply constraints that have left AMD's server CPUs nearly sold out for 2026.

The reasons for the sell-off in AMD stock are unclear. Massive demand and an increasingly favorable valuation could take AMD stock higher over the long term.

Shares of Nvidia ( NASDAQ: NVDA ) are also on the move after Wolfe reiterated an outperform rating on the stock.

The chip maker is almost sold out of server CPUs this year, while demand for its AI chips should support up to $15 billion in revenue, KeyBanc said.

Advanced Micro Devices ( NASDAQ:AMD ) stock climbed 78% in 2025, driven by growing adoption of its artificial intelligence (AI) accelerators and expectations for next-generation products.

KeyBanc analyst John Vinh upgraded AMD stock to overweight today. Vinh sees AI chips making up one-third of AMD's revenue in 2026.
